For many years I have heard about blogs. But I have never had much interest to take the time to maintain one. Even as I find myself here now, I find myself skeptical of this whole thing.
Yet, here I am. Today, I begin this new blog. This post may end up not only being my first post, but also my last post.
I do not consider or believe that I have much to say or contribute to the world wide web. But I do believe that God has much to say. Let me explain:
When I became a pastor almost seven years ago, I set a goal for myself to read through the Bible each year.
I must confess that I have not been perfect. I have fallen short of fully achieving this goal. I have not read completely through the Bible every year. But this commitment has allowed me to engross myself in the Word, and has led me to complete a read through of the Bible several times.
I once completed the Bible from cover to cover over the course of two years, but what I have found to be most successful is using the "One Year Bible" Plan (www.oneyearbibleonline.com).
Currently, I find myself using the "One Year Bible" plan. And I am especially excited about it because I find myself ahead in my readings rather than playing catch up. This is a indeed a blessing.
The danger of making the commitment to read through the Bible each year, is making the reading the end of the means. That is the end goal is completing the reading and going no further. The reading of God's Word in its proper place serves as a means to an end - which is the application of the Word in your life.
This is where the blog comes in. My desire for this blog is that it will serve to not only to help me, but also help you to apply God's Word. Over time I have discovered that application is much more meaningful and lasting when it is shared with others.
It is my goal that this blog will serve as encouragement for others to immerse themselves in God's Word. And when the going gets tough, to serve as encouragement to stay the course.
