Ground Breaking of First Building

I don't have an exact date on this ground breaking ceremony. Here is a note from Bob Kessler explaining some of the events that surrounded this ceremony. Bob who is pictured in the last picture served as Building Committee Chairman and is currently the Chairman of our Board of Elders.

I didn't find the groundbreaking date, but I did run across some other dates-

On June 10, 1990 the Voter's Assembly had an extensive discussion on the need to form a Building Committee. It had already been approved by the Executive Committee to bring before the congregation a proposal to create a Building and Planning Committee. There was some confusion on the duties and organization of the committee, but a motion to allow the Executive Committee to form a Building and Planning Committee was passed unanimously.

On November 19, 1990 a letter from the Building and Planning Committee was sent to the congregation to introduce the newly formed seven member committee.

On Sunday December 8, 1991 the leaders of the congregation met at the Galleon Restaurant (now called St Charles Place) to give an advance pledge to the ABOOBA (All Building for One, One Building for All) campaign during a special dinner. I believe the following Sunday, December 15, was the congregation's first opportunity to join the three year $500,000 fundraiser.

My best guess is that the groundbreaking took place in September 1992, maybe on the 13th or 20th, but it's just a guess.

Hope that helps.
