Train yourself to be godly. For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come. 1 Timothy 4:7-9
Ash Wednesday, February 25, begins the season of Lent. During the Lenten season we will be examining holy habits that enable us to wholly live. Another name for these holy habits are called the spiritual disciplines.
Spiritual disciplines are essential for growth in our Christian faith. They are tools that God gives to us. But unless a tool is used, it serves no purpose. We will work to discover how to best use these tools in a significant way and enable us to more fully live for the Lord.
Practicing the spiritual disciplines make a tremendous difference in our lives. On the surface it might seem that practicing these disciplines would restrict our lives and put constraints on our time. But the reality is that the disciplines are given to us to free us. The disciplines help raise us above the constraints of this world to taste the unlimitlessness of God.
Discipline is important in every aspect of our lives. Maybe you have heard it said, “you can pay now and play later, or you can play now and pay later.” There is much truth in that statement. Living a disciplined life may be difficult in the moment, but there is much reward that accompanies it.
I pray that you will practice the discipline of worship and join us for our new message series - Holy Habits, Wholly Living. This new message series begins on Sunday, February 22 where we will discuss an ancient discipline that is often lost in the modern world. That is the discipline of fasting.

If you're serious about the biblical principals of fasting, check out www.jentezenfranklin.org/fasting. We've been doing a 21 day fast for the upcoming year every year for the past 17 years. We've also done 3 to 7 day fasts when God has directed us to "new things" or decisions we've had to make.
This is another one of those areas people are afraid of because they know nothing of it. It isn't just a fad or "a way to get something from God". Again, read your Bible...
